BTEC Education and Training

On this page you can find out all you need about our BTEC Education and Training courses for people who are or wish to be teachers or trainers within the education sector or in training roles in industry.

By the way, if you came here looking for PTLLS, CTLLS or DTLLS courses, you’ll need to know that in 2013, these three key courses became new BTEC courses:

  • Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) became the BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training
  • Certificate for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning sector (CTLLS) became the BTEC Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training
  • Diploma for Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS) became the BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training

Let’s take a look at the different levels and what they can offer you:

Level 3 BTEC Award in Education and Training

The Level 3 Award is designed for trainers and teachers who aim to work in (or currently work in) training roles within industry, in Further Education or in the independent training sector. The Award is an introductory teaching qualification, enabling candidates to prepare and deliver training and teaching in a variety of contexts.

Level 4 BTEC Certificate in Education and Training

A step up from the Level 3 Award, the Level 4 Certificate is aimed at people who wish to teach or train in a wide variety of contexts and develop practical teaching skills. Candidates may be teaching or training already or may aspire to do so, but a requirement of this course is access to observed and assessed teaching sessions.

Level 5 BTEC Diploma in Education and Training

The Level 5 Diploma has more stringent assessment of practical teaching or training competence. As well as planning, delivering and evaluating teaching and learning, it includes advanced topics such as:

  • development of knowledge of theories, principles and models in Education and Training
  • understanding professionalism and the influence of professional values in education and training
  • developing skills to assess learning

As with the Certificate, candidates do not have to be currently working in teaching or training although they do need to have access to an environment where they are delivering the practical teaching or training sessions that form a key part of the assessment for this qualification.

Whether choosing the Level 3, 4 or 5 qualification, candidates can be confident that with BTEC Education and Training programmes they will be gaining a nationally recognised qualification, fully accredited on the QCF and under the umbrella of a world class education company, Pearson.
