Junior Doctors facing the Leadership and Management Skills Gap – Our Solution:

Over the last 2 years Always Consult have been developing a novel approach to apprenticeships.  Working in partnership with South Tees NHS Foundation Trust we have created a programme call Foundation Leadership and Management (FLM), specifically designed to target the skills gap encountered by junior doctors starting on their medical careers.

Leadership and management is a key component to any clinical workspace. FLM is designed to address the recognised lack of formal training in this area for doctors.  FLM is a clinically focused leadership and management programme that has been mapped to the Level 3 Team Leader/Supervisor apprenticeship and is delivered alongside the Foundation doctors programme, through the apprenticeship levy. FLM is now in its second cycle at South Tees with the 3rd cohort of learners due to start at the end of July, along with new cohorts at two other trusts.
