Shropshire Business Offers New Qualification For Life

A Shropshire-based Qualification Centre is set to deliver training programmes for Managers and budding business entrepreneurs. Shrewsbury company, Always Consult, is behind the initiative to run nationally-recognised awards, endorsed by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM).

Managing Director, Carol Ewels said: “We’re very excited about our latest venture. Our Centre offers business executives the opportunity to get their professional development accredited by the ILM.” She continued: “For those considering setting up their own company, this is an excellent way of delivering a message to prospective clients that they really are serious about what they’re doing.”

Always Consult is initially offering the Level 3 Award in Effective Management and the Level 3 Award in Starting Your Enterprise. Carol explained: “NVQs are no more. Instead, we’re offering a much more flexible approach to learning through the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). This is a method where staff undertake a course of study, earn Credits and then “bank” those Credits to use at a later date. They may decide to embark on a higher level qualification with us. So, in effect, staff have a qualification for life!”

Always Consult rolls out its Level 3 courses at the end of May catering for businesses in Shropshire, Staffordshire, West Midlands, Mid and North Wales. The training can be offered on a group basis, or tailored to one-to-one support. The programmes have been designed to suit all learning styles. Staff can expect to cover such topics as understanding and planning for change in the workplace and assessing the suitability and viability of a business idea. Carol says, “We have worked long and hard to achieve centre status utilising the varied skills of all our team members. Only a handful of business consultants have obtained this qualification throughout the region and we are delighted to now be in a position to use our expertise to help companies take full advantage of the opportunities we can provide.”

The Qualification Centre is being run by a team of highly skilled Associates; each one is an experienced Manager and small business owner. Carol said: “Who better to support staff through their qualifications than people who have been there, done that and can offer their skills and expertise to make the learning experience truly realistic?”


The Institute of Leadership and Management is the UK’s largest awarding body for leadership and management qualifications. They are partnered with over 2,000 ILM-approved centres, comprising private training providers, further and higher education colleges and employers delivering in-house management training. 

The QCF is the new way of recognising achievement – through the award of credit for units and qualifications. It provides more flexible routes to gaining full qualifications and enables progression to be achieved in smaller steps through the accumulation of credit.  The QCF is already up and running and replaces the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) structure.
